West Hollywood, CA: A Convergence of Souls (Divine Discontent) 2011
Site specific, city sponsored installation in an vacant strip mall in West Hollywood. Divine Discontent was part of a larger installation called "A Convergence of Souls". Divine Discontent is a chapel space not for contemplation but to stir the mind and ask questions about the things that we accept in our lives that are wrong. It questions the subjects of religion, sex, vanity, abuse, and complacency. It begs the question of what are you doing and are you doing enough? The graffitti stained glass windows at the entrance lead you into the meditation area where three astroturf hay bails act as church pews leading the eye to the large contemplative, paintings that line the walls on each side. 5 pounds of mud on the back wall with twine lines acts as a book of revelations and has pages from a bible on the subjects discussed laying on its lines. The ruby red prayer piece has a broken candle representing the people in the world that the church "judges" yet they still burn bright.
